Pink Bourbon – The Champion of Champions.
Here is the thing, 4 Out Of 6 US Barista finalists used a Gesha, but not the Champion. The champion was a Pink Bourbon.
The other variety that made the top 6 was a Bourbon Sidra.
When 5 of the finalists at the world barista championships in Athens used Colombian coffees, we reflect on the winning coffee variety at the US Barista Championships – A Pink Bourbon.
Pink Bourbon cherries typically exhibit flavours reminiscent of citrus fruits, delicate florals, and honey-like sweetness, with tropical and floral undertones.
Even in optimal environmental conditions, Pink Bourbon is challenging to grow successfully. Not only do producers need to meticulously maintain plants, they must also isolate them from other varieties to ensure successful cross-pollination.
The Pink Bourbon variety is special to the Huila region of the Andes, Colombia, the region in which I was born and raised and where my parents and family still live.
