At 2050 metres up in the majestic Andes Mountains El Refugio farm has produced since 2020 speciality coffee, with sustainable practises have transformed their 7.5 acres from a livestock farm into a heaven for wild life and native tree species that were introduced by the Agudelo family along side Coffee plants.

The Coffee process is farmed and harvested in an “Ecomill” that is a machine that pulps the coffee and has a fermentation tank right beneath the pulping machine great for water management, where the water consumption is very low compared to other methods.

At Black Mountain Roast we say Gesha, but we are influenced largely by growing regions in Colombia. The name comes from its provenance in eastern Ethiopia, near the town of Gesha, where it is believed to have originated. But over time, as it made its way around the world, the name took on a new form and now both ways of spelling are widely use.

We have had the pleasure of visiting, tasting and picking coffee at El Refugio in the Andes Mountains, its a stunning mecca for wildlife and biodiversity and the coffee they produce is incredible.
