Colombian Iced Coffee Recipes to Try at Home

At Black Mountain Roast, we love coffee in all its forms and with the Colombian National Football team on fire and already into the World Cup Knockouts here are a couple of Colombian iced recipes to keep you cold at home.

Sometimes nothing beats the simple pleasure of an Iced Latte. Creamy,  refreshing and cafe-worthy at home, and of course, using only the finest coffee from the best Welsh coffee roasters.

You’ll need:

  • A double espresso (or small strong freshly brewed coffee)

  • Ice

  • Cold milk, or oat/almond or coconut – in Colombia very often it is made with condensed milk.

Method:

  1. Brew your espresso or strong moka or AeroPress.

  2. Fill a glass with ice.

  3. Pour the espresso over the ice.

  4. Top with your choice of cold milk.

Or how about a simple Café con Hielo - A basic iced black coffee or un Tinto (sweetened black coffee) poured over ice.

You'll need:

  • A small strong coffee that can be made in a Moka Pot, Aero Press or even a double espresso

  • Ice

Method:

  1. Brew your espresso or strong moka or Aeropress

  2. Fill a glass with ice

  3. Pour the espresso over the ice

Colombia's third-wave coffee scene embraces many modern iced drinks. Popular choices at contemporary cafes include:

  • Cold Brew: Smooth, slow-steeped highland coffee, frequently served on tap as Nitro Cold Brew for a creamy, velvety texture.

  • Cascara: A fizzy, refreshing iced tea made from the dried coffee cherry.

  • Coffee Cocktails or ‘Hard Coffees’ are growing in popularity in Colombia with regions such as Huila enjoying delicious cold brew coffee liqueur cocktails.  Many places are serving their take on classic cocktails including the popular white Russian

The White Russian

This Creamy, smooth, refreshing cocktail is not actually a Russian concoction at all.  It simply gets its name because of the Vodka it’s based on. In fact, this cocktail started life as a Black Russian but somewhere along the road, someone added cream and so now we have ‘The White Russian’.  We have made it using our Los Cafeteros Coffee Liqueur, which is made from Bean’s grown in the Huila Region.

If you’ve never tried one, you’re in for a treat!  This Colombian take can only be described as delicious, cold and refreshing:

Nice and easy to make…

  • 60ml Black Mountain Botanicals Vodka

  • 15ml LOS CAFETEROS coffee liqueur

  • 15ml Toffee Apple Liqueur

  • 15ml Single cream

  • Grated Nutmeg (optional)

Method…

  1. Combine the Black Mountains Botanical Vodka, LOS CAFETEROS (coffee liqueur) and Toffee Apple Liqueur in a cocktail shaker packed with ice.

  2. Shake well

  3. Strain into a Rocks tumbler filled with ice

  4. Lightly beat the single cream until it starts to become frothy

  5. Pour over the back of a spoon to stop it sinking straight to the bottom

  6. Garnish with a dusting of freshly grated nutmeg… Optional but nice!

Best served over ice in a rocks glass for more cocktails including the Frozen Mudslide head to … https://loscafeteros.co.uk/cocktail/frozen-mudslide/
