Creating the perfect brew is like a work of art, and it all starts with award-winning coffee beans delivered from Black Mountain Roast. To craft your perfect cup, you need to understand the various blends, their differences, and why these change the final product. Ultimately, the brewing process you opt for is going to determine the type of coffee blend that’s right for you.

Whole Beans or Fine Ground - And Why It Matters?

Whole Beans

Whole coffee beans are a great choice if you are using a machine or coffee maker. As you would expect, the sooner you brew your coffee after grinding it, the more you will benefit from the natural flavours of the beans, which is why so many people opt to buy our whole coffee beans.

Coarse Ground

Course ground coffee is slightly larger than a medium grind and works best brewed in a Cafetiere or French Press. Slightly coarser grinds have a lighter and more delicate consistency compared to finer grinds.

Medium Ground

Medium grind particles are comparable in size to coarse sand and are best suited to drip coffee makers, pour-over methods, and some Aeropress setups. One of the more versatile coffee grounds, this creates a good balance of acidity and sweetness.

Medium Fine Ground

Medium to fine ground coffee is versatile and works with a range of brewing techniques. Used for espresso, Aeropress, pour-over, and drip coffee machines, this is a good middle ground to yield a strong cup of coffee.

Fine Ground

Fine coffee is best used for high-pressure brewing methods, such as espresso machines, to extract a rich flavour. The finer the ground, the more intense flavour you’re going to create - this is a good option for brewing methods with short extraction times.
